How to keep your energy high once you’re back from your vacation?

Check out 4 ways

During your vacation, make great memories you can look back on throughout the year. Not only visit beautiful places, but also make some associations that will help you recall them once you’re back:

  • vacation playlist – prepare a collection of songs or pieces of music that you will listen to during your vacation. Play them when your vacation is over to bring back your memories;
  • photos and videos – during your vacation, capture daily life on photos and videos; do not expect them to be fit for National Geographic – just take some easy seconds-long shots and use an app on your smartphone to merge them into a short video;
  • photos and videos – during your vacation, capture daily life on photos and videos; do not expect them to be fit for National Geographic – just take some easy seconds-long shots and use an app on your smartphone to merge them into a short video;
  • scents – before (or during?) your vacation, buy a special perfume different from the ones you are normally wearing. Whenever you apply it, you will be instantly transported to the place where you spent your vacation. Scents evoke vivid memories!

Scents, sounds, and flavours associated with your vacation will bring your memories to life. And so that you have things to remember, turn on your mindfulness mode when on vacation.

Practise mindfulness while on vacation

Mindfulness is all about bringing your attention to the stimuli occurring in the present moment both inside and outside of you. It is about focusing on the here and now and directing your awareness towards the present moment.

You don’t need years of yoga training and meditation to benefit from mindfulness in your everyday life – the more senses you involve in experiencing a moment, the more detailed memories you will make of it. You can just sunbathe on the beach – lounging in your beach chair with your mind someplace else (perhaps thinking about the work you are supposed to be taking a break from).

Or you can sunbathe on the beach:

  • being aware of all the sounds surrounding you – one of the basic mindfulness exercises is to pay attention to each new sound as it enters your awareness every few seconds;
  • touching the sand – feeling its temperature, texture and shape; checking how it feels when it starts slipping through your fingers;
  • putting on a tanning oil – focusing on how it feels to spread it over your warm skin; trying to remember its scent.

Get rest!

Think about the reasons why you go on vacation. If you want to get away from your daily routine and de-stress, crazy all-night parties and wildly garnished cocktails might be your thing. On the other hand, if what you need is recuperation and relaxation, indulge yourself.

Avoid the trap of a jam-packed itinerary. All the stuff you need to squeeze into tables, mind maps and to-do lists on a daily basis is more than enough. Give yourself what you really need.
